Searches: bad abortions, the 1940s, dead teens, propaganda, and then some

  • "Bad abortion stories": Here are all the fatal ones I know about.. This woman lost a kidney. Rosa Naperstek-Taft had a party the night before to celebrate that hers would be the first of the new and improved safe and legal abortions among her circle; she got to spend eight months in the hospital trying to recover. Water Tower Reproductive Center was a pretty seedy abortion mill. Nicholette changed her mind, but the damage was done and she got to watch her baby fight for life for six months in a NICU. Tanisha's abortion was a nightmare from beginning to end. East Tennessee Womens Clinic would have fit nicely into any back-alley scenario. A nurse at Summit Medical Center of Alabama gave a near-term patient RU-486, killing the baby and very nearly killing the mother as well. There are plenty more stories here. And here. And here. And here. And here. And here.

  • Can air embolism from an air compressor kill you? If you're trying to do a home abortion with it in your garage, yes. Though I imagine it could be fatal under other circumstances as well.

  • Christelle Morrison reportedly survived an abortion attempt. I'm looking for information on how that was determined.

  • Abortion in the 1940's. While abortion was still illegal, there was a massive drop in maternal mortality from abortion. The death toll fell from 1,407 in 1940, to 744 in 1945, to 263 in 1950. Most researches attribute this plunge to the development of blood transfusion techniques and the introduction of antibiotics. The deaths I know of are: Pauline Shirley, 1940; Helen Clark, 1941; Agnes Pearson, 1941; Madeline McGeehan, 1942; Cleo Moore, 1942; Florence Schnoor, 1942; Harriet Lichtenberg, 1942; Amelia Cardito, 1944; Beatrice Fisher, 1945; Ilene Eagan, 1947; Doris Becker, 1948; Dorothy Martin, 1949.

  • abortion rates after parental consent laws are enacted.

  • Teen dies from abortion. I have 71 cases here.

  • Propaganda techniques and abortion. Where to begin!? There's the Planned Parenthood Evil CPC hoax. There's the huge gap between what the National Abortion Federation promises and what they deliver. There was Planned Parenthood's life-endangering lie that the anesthesia given to the mother for late abortions kills the fetus. There's the use of human shields. There's the story of how the abortion lobby took Becky Bell's death from pneumonia and turned it into a fundraising and lobbying tool to fight parental involvement laws. There's the way the abortion lobby tried to use the death of Rosie Jiminez to push for restored federal funding for elective abortions, despite a CDC study that clearly showed that the funding cut reduced hospitalizations for botched abortions among Medicaid-eligible women. And it goes on and on and on.

  • "Complications during abortions"? See bad abortions, above.

  • Perforated bowel. A National Abortion Federation abortionist describes his "cross your fingers" method for dealing with bowel perforations. Then there was this case in Michigan, involving an illegal 28-week abortion performed by Dr. Jose Gilberto Higuera. Steve Brigham perforated a woman's bowel during an abortion performed in his New York office. Marcia L. suffered a perforated bowel during an abortion performed by Phillip Rand. Fatal, during an abortion: Moris Helen Herron and Sharon Hamptlon in California, Ellen Williams in Florida, Julie Roe in New York, Sharon Davis in New Mexico, and Jammie Garcia in Texas, off the top of my head.

  • Dr Curtis Boyd's clinic in Albuquerque got torched under the fishiest of circumstances. I'm waiting to see what they find when the dust settles.
